Le Baixu asbl

About Us
Martine worked for 12 years in the artistic department of La Monnaie, the national opera house in Brussels.
She supported productions from their conception to their performance on stage, and organized numerous tours around the world.
Driven by a thirst for human engagement, she then devoted 14 years to a social project in Brazil, in a small isolated fishing village, lacking running water, electricity, access to education and healthcare.
Among his most notable achievements: accompanying a group of young people from the village — who had never touched an instrument — in the formation of a percussion group, before producing them in concert in Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo.
These experiences revealed to him a deep conviction: with few resources, it is possible to achieve great things.

our approach
It was from this conviction that Le Baixu was born 4 years ago.
A Brussels cellar with a swing and intimate atmosphere, featuring excellent acoustics, a baby grand piano and a lively stage — a space dedicated to concerts, creations, hybrid projects, residencies and artistic encounters.
But Le Baixu is much more than a concert hall. It's a meeting place for artists and young people—children and teenagers—through creative and social workshops. Social, cultural, religious, and gender diversity is at the heart of the project: a conviction that art is a universal language, accessible to all.

our team
Behind Le Baixu are women and men. Passionate volunteers who believe in the project and dedicate themselves to it wholeheartedly—at the bar, in administration, in communications, in brainstorming sessions, in discussions with the musicians. Cultural professionals or simply music lovers, they bring Le Baixu to life with generosity and enthusiasm.
